Synthetic textiles are the foundation of performance technical wear. However, standard polyester and nylon are petroleum derivatives that accumulate in landfills indefinitely. Our focus is transitioning to recycled polymers without compromising structural strengths.
Using recycled PET bottle flakes and ocean-retrieved fishing nets, we weave high-density nylon fibers that perform identically to virgin synthetics. The challenge is circular recycling. Synthetic blends that contain elastane are notoriously difficult to split during recycling processes.
To counter this, Nexus Threads designs garments for easy deconstruction. Zippers, snap fasteners, and drawcords are attached using modular seam points, allowing users to remove metal hardware before submitting old technical shells to our closed-loop recycling partners.
